| dc.description.abstract | Plant physiology allows us to understand how plants respond to certain environmental conditions. One example is potato cultivation, where climate change has altered rainfall patterns, often affecting the crop’s critical growth stage. Although potatoes are efficient at absorbing water, both excess and deficiency have negative effects due to their shallow root system. This study evaluated physiological variables following foliar application of zinc, iodine, and their combinations from various sources under water-stress conditions in potato cultivation. The objective was to determine the mitigating response of these micronutrients under the mentioned conditions. The study was conducted in pots, and water stress was induced during the critical stage of the crop, tuberization. The results demonstrated that iodine and zinc, when combined with an osmolite such as potassium nitrate, enhance their mitigating effect. Treatment T3 achieved the highest yield; energy and reserves were directed to the tubers, causing significant cellular damage. In comparison, T7 was also among the treatments with the highest yield and obtained consistent results in physiological variables such as CRA and MSI. In conclusion, it is confirmed that the combined use of micronutrients and osmolytes can be employed to improve the physiological and productive response of potato crops under water stress conditions. | |
