Purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) is one of the most invasive weeds worldwide, causing significant losses in various crops. Chemical control is the most widely used strategy; however, its efficacy can be affected by factors such as water quality, especially pH. This research aimed to determine the influence of the pH of the application water on the efficacy of three postemergence herbicides (glyphosate, halosulfuron-methyl, and metsulfuron-methyl) for controlling purple nutsedge. The study was conducted using pots maintained under environmental conditions, with periodic irrigation to keep substrate moisture, using a completely randomized design with ten treatments and four replications. Shoot biomass, subterranean biomass, and regrowth were evaluated. The results showed that water pH (7, 6, and 4.5) did not significantly influence the efficacy of the evaluated herbicides. However, marked differences were found among the active ingredients: glyphosate showed the highest control efficacy, with reductions exceeding 95 % in coverage and shoot biomass, as well as a marked decrease in tuber and basal bulbils production, effectively limiting regrowth. Halosulfuron-methyl also showed high efficiency (80-100 %), with outstanding foliage control and a significant reduction in regrowth, especially at pH 7 and 6. In contrast, metsulfuron-methyl was the least effective, even recording negative efficiency values that evidenced greater foliar biomass accumulation compared to the control. It is concluded that the choice of the active ingredient is decisive for the control of C. rotundus, with glyphosate and halosulfuron-methyl being the most effective options, while water pH within the evaluated range does not represent a limiting factor for the efficacy of these herbicides.
