Abstract
The relationship between income from coca cultivation and the increase in capital in the agricultural properties of coca growers in the district of Santa Rosa - Ayacucho, the third district with the highest presence of this crop at the national level, is demonstrated for the year 2019. The objective is to evaluate if the coca growers achieve better conditions due to the profitability of the crop and can increase their capital and invest in their productive unit, thus achieving the transformation from a traditional peasant unit to a modern or developing agricultural unit. The increase in capital was evaluated through the variables: educational level achieved, purchase of new land, size of land dedicated to coca cultivation, access to financing and improvement of agricultural technique. 67 coca growers were surveyed. With the information collected, a cross-sectional econometric analysis was carried out, with a probit model to demonstrate the significance between the variables, and a positive relationship is demonstrated between the increase in coca income with the aforementioned variables, and the best ones are also verified. conditions of the coca growers' units compared to those who do not plant, with indicators such as access to credit and purchase of new land and vehicles. Although in most cases they allocate their income to consumption expenses for household maintenance, precariousness is also observed in the assets of the agricultural property, which suggests that the surpluses are not allocated for the same economic activity. It is recommended to study the decisions of coca producers when crop prices decline and units lose profitability as is currently the case.
