Abstract
La creciente generación de residuos sólidos, especialmente los orgánicos, es una problemática ambiental crítica tanto a nivel nacional como global. En el distrito de Villa El Salvador, la Municipalidad ha implementado una planta de compostaje para valorizar los residuos orgánicos generados principalmente en los mercados. El objetivo de este trabajo fue sistematizar la experiencia de evaluación y monitoreo del proceso de compostaje en la planta Huertos de Conchán y proponer estrategias para mejorar su eficiencia. Se describió el proceso de compostaje y se identificaron las etapas basadas en los datos de temperatura, encontrando que las fases mesófila, termofílica, enfriamiento y maduración son esenciales para un compost de calidad. Las conclusiones revelan que el proceso de compostaje en la planta ha permitido reducir significativamente el volumen de residuos destinados a rellenos sanitarios y las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero, al tiempo que se genera compost de alta calidad para su uso en áreas verdes del distrito. Además, el análisis de temperatura confirmó la eficacia del monitoreo para optimizar el proceso y garantizar la calidad del producto final. Se recomienda la implementación de tecnologías avanzadas de monitoreo, como sensores de humedad y temperatura, y la realización de análisis periódicos de laboratorio para evaluar la calidad del compost. Estas medidas permitirán mejorar la eficiencia del proceso y asegurar la sostenibilidad de la planta en el futuro, contribuyendo al desarrollo sostenible del distrito y al cumplimiento de los compromisos ambientales.
The growing generation of solid waste, especially organic waste, is a critical environmental problem both nationally and globally. In the district of Villa El Salvador, the municipality has implemented a composting plant to recover organic waste generated mainly in markets. The objective of this study was to systematize the experience of evaluating and monitoring the composting process at the Huertos de Conchán plant and to propose strategies to improve its efficiency. The composting process was described and the stages were identified based on temperature data, finding that the mesophilic, thermophilic, cooling, and maturation phases are essential for quality compost. The conclusions reveal that the composting process at the plant has significantly reduced the volume of waste sent to landfills and greenhouse gas emissions, while generating high quality compost for use in green areas in the district. In addition, temperature analysis confirmed the effectiveness of monitoring to optimize the process and ensure the quality of the final product. The implementation of advanced monitoring technologies, such as humidity and temperature sensors, and periodic laboratory analysis to assess compost quality are recommended. These measures will improve process efficiency and ensure the plant's future sustainability, contributing to the district's sustainable development and compliance with environmental commitments.
