Abstract
This professional sufficiency project describes the evaluation of a Purified Water Treatment System in a Peruvian pharmaceutical plant, carried out from a biologist's perspective. A three-stage methodology was applied: literature review, diagnosis, and comparison. In the first stage, theoretical knowledge about water purification techniques and their fundamentals was consolidated. Subsequently, during the diagnosis stage, an analysis of the physicochemical and microbiological data collected during the system implementation between December 2023 and January 2024 was conducted. The physicochemical parameters evaluated included electrical conductivity, total hardness, total chlorine, and total organic carbon at each stage of the process. Regarding the microbiological analysis, the presence of indicative microorganisms of biological contamination, such as heterotrophs, total coliforms, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was determined. Results obtained were compared with international and national quality standards for pharmaceutical-grade purified water, demonstrating the effectiveness of the treatment system and the suitability of the produced water for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The biologist's contribution to this study was essential in ensuring the microbiological and physicochemical quality of the water, an important aspect in the production of medicines.
