Relación entre el consumo de calcio con el Índice de Masa Corporal e Índice cintura/talla en escolares de Lima Norte

Abstract

El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre el consumo de Calcio con el Índice de Masa Corporal e Índice cintura/talla en escolares de 6 a 11 años de Lima Norte, a través de una evaluación de consumo y antropométrica. El diseño del estudio fue de tipo correlacional y transversal; se evaluó a los escolares de una Institución Educativa de Lima Norte con 6 sedes, en el año 2019. El análisis se realizó ingresando los datos a una base en el programa Microsoft Excel, donde se calculó el IMC, Índice cintura/talla y el consumo de calcio por día en miligramos (mg); luego fueron exportados al SPSS donde se realizaron las pruebas de Correlación. Al evaluar el IMC se obtuvo una prevalencia de Sobrepeso 23.4% y Obesidad 9.5%, un Índice Cintura/Talla promedio de 0.53 (el 62% mayor al recomendado <0.5) y un Consumo de Calcio promedio de 671.1 mg (el 63% con un consumo Inadecuado). Se encontró una Correlación negativa estadísticamente significativa entre las variables IMC e Índice Cintura/Talla con el Consumo de Calcio con una Rho de Spearman de -0.499 y de -0.688 respectivamente. Se debe asegurar el consumo Adecuado de Calcio en los niños y prevenir el exceso de peso.

The objective was to determine the relationship between the calcium intake, Body Mass Index and waist-to-height ratio of schoolchildren from 6 to 11 years old in the area of northern Lima, through a consumption and anthropometric evaluation. The study design was correlational and cross-sectional; the schoolchildren of a six-branch educational institution in northern Lima were evaluated in 2019. The analysis was performed entering the data into a database in Microsoft Excel, where the BMI, the waist-to-height ratio and the daily calcium intake in milligrams (mg) were calculated; then they were exported to SPSS where the correlation analysis was conducted. When the BMI was evaluated, there was a prevalence of overweight 23.4% and obesity 9.5%, an average of waist-to-height ratio of 0.53 (62% higher that recommended <0.5) and an average of calcium intake of 671.1 mg (the 63% with an inappropriate consumption). A statistically significant negative correlation was found between the variables BMI and waist-to-height ratio with the calcium intake, showing a Spearman’s rho of -0.499 and -0.688 respectively. An appropriate calcium intake must be ensured in children in order to prevent overweight.
