Abstract
This study investigates the selection and estimation of extreme climate indices (ECI) associated with the occurrence of snowfall in the southern highlands of Peru. The focus is mainly on the selection of these indices and their role in the occurrence of snowfall. To meet this objective, the research was developed in three important parts. First, the IECs for the period 2004-2018 were calculated with data from meteorological stations and correlated with the occurrence of snowfall. Then, the IECs for the period 2019-2065 were calculated based on data generated by the WRF-ACCESS1-0, WRF-HadGEM2-ES and WRF-MPI-ESM-LR models. With these results, a complete time series of the behavior of the IECs from 2004 to 2065 was obtained, which was useful to visualize the trends in the occurrence of snowfall for the three stations. As a result, it was found that only Pampahuta and Imata were the stations in which the IEC could be associated with the occurrence of snowfall, the selected indices being FD and PCRptot for Pampahuta and tending to decrease towards 2050, while the occurrence of snowfall in Imata is associated with the RX1day, R95ptot, PCRptot, FD and TXn indices and tends to remain stationary towards 2050.
