Abstract
In Peru, there is no precedent for the proper management of seedless watermelon hybrid cultivars. Therefore, the objective of this thesis was to determine the appropriate distribution of the pollinator (cv. Frilly) for optimal production of the seedless watermelon hybrid (cv. Fashion), due to the presence of sterile pollen in the seedless hybrid. These cultivars were planted in the UNALM fields, taking into account four different distributions of the commercial seedless hybrid and the pollinator, which were 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 4:2 (commercial seedless: pollinator), in 70 m2 plots with a distance of 1 metre between plants, with five replicates per treatment. Yield (weight and number of fruits) was evaluated. The results obtained show a tendency towards higher yields of the commercial seedless hybrid when using a 4:2 distribution, with the second best distribution being 4:1. However, lower yields of the commercial hybrid were obtained with the 2:1 distribution. According to the results obtained, it can be concluded that the appropriate pollinator distribution for optimal production of the commercial seedless watermelon hybrid, under the conditions of the trial, is 4:2. Finally, it is important to mention that this thesis work seeks to generate knowledge for the proper management of these cultivars.
