Abstract
The present work of Professional Sufficiency was carried out in a single-site pig farm of 400 sows, located in the Arequipa region, with the purpose of stabilizing the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) that affected it to maintain a good productivity in the farm. The work consisted of the early detection of PRRS, through the observation of the increase in abortions (in 25 days there were three times as many abortions as in the previous year), after which the PRRS stabilization procedure was proposed, which considered the closure of the farm, obtaining and applying an inoculum with the strain present on the farm to infect all replacement animals, application of the McREBEL system, removal of breeding males from the herd, increase of the Service Quota, removal of nursery and fattening animals, discarding of animals of lower value and continuous monitoring of the presence of the virus through ELISA serology and PCR. As a result of the application of this stabilization procedure, in a period of less than 100 days it was possible to observe recovery of production and reduction of the economic impact of the disease.
